Last night, Sarah-Jane Butler, CEO and Founder of Parental Choice, was recognised by We are the City as one of five amazing women who are championing the UK pipeline of female talent.
Sarah-Jane, who attended the prestigious awards ceremony at The Landmark Hotel said she was ‘stunned, but proud’ to be recognised.
‘I left the house yesterday morning buoyant after a pep-talk from my daughter. I told her that it was very unlikely I would win because of the awesome women there. She said, “but mummy if you have been chosen, then you must be awesome too so why shouldn’t you win?”.’ Wise words indeed from a nine-year-old!
After being nominated she was shocked to find herself on the shortlist. Sarah-Jane, whose business works to help women return to work after having children, was humbled by the other great business leaders on the list, who were all doing their bit to champion women in the workplace.
Sarah-Jane works tirelessly to encourage businesses to recognise that life as a working parent may have its issues, but these can be very easily overcome with good planning and supportive employers, which helps with retaining female talent.
Working for a number of not-for-profit organisations, Sarah-Jane champions gender equality and diversity in the workplace, flexible working for all, recognising the role men play as parents and fair childcare for working parents.
Our congratulations go to the other Champions whose work was recognised last night. They were, Carmel McKinney OBE, Deborah Gibson, Foluke Akinlose MBE and Sarah Atkinson. More information on all the Rising Stars Champion award can be found here .
So, what of Sarah-Jane today, the morning after the night before? Well, she was on an early morning flight to Frankfurt with a client to see how Parental Choice can help working parents settling into their Frankfurt office. Follow this with a meeting with her team of consultants who are already on the ground and helping families settle into their new surroundings and tomorrow when her girls finish school she is taking a well-deserved break!
Sarah-Jane Butler set up Parental Choice in 2011 after returning to life as a lawyer in the City after the birth of her first daughter. She was astounded by the lack of useful information available about childcare options and the limited support she received from her employer. She is passionate about supporting women returning to work, guiding them an empowering them create a plan which enables them to have the career they deserve alongside the family-life they crave.
Parental Choice offers childcare searches for nannies, childminders, au-pairs, nurseries and schools and payroll, pension and legal services for families employing staff in their homes for individuals; and packages of searches, wellbeing talks and global mobility services for businesses who are looking to recognise parents in the workplace. In 2018 the business expanded and now has offices in APAC and EMEA.
