Childcare Search for a Maternity Nurse

Amanda and Neil are both doctors working in high profile jobs in London. Amanda was pregnant with twins due in June 2012. They knew they wanted to have some help when the twins are born but as a result of moving house had not arranged it. On 20 May 2012, they asked Parental Choice to search for a maternity nurse that met the following criteria:

  • Must be a twins specialist;
  • Must be able to live in;
  • Must be available to work from the first week in June for 8 weeks minimum;
  • Must be able to work 24/5 starting on a Sunday night each week;
  • Amanda will be trying to breastfeed and requires help establishing a routine;
  • Amanda will have had a C-section and therefore needs someone who will be willing to help around the house as well as looking after the twins.

Parental Choice identified five potential maternity nurses who were available according
to Amanda and Neil’s criteria. We submitted our report to them on 24 May 2012. This comprised full details on each candidate along with their CV and reference details. Parental Choice also organised for each of the nurses to be available for telephone interviews after 7pm during the following week. The twins arrived early on 28 May and
their chosen maternity nurse started on 6 June once they were discharged from hospital. She worked for Amanda and Neil for over 12 weeks and they have now asked Parental Choice to start a search for a nanny and a nursery for their twins for when Amanda goes back to work after her maternity leave. In addition, Amanda has recommended Parental
Choice to members of her NCT class and two further searches are now being carried out as a result.

“When our twins arrived unexpectedly early we had no time at all to find a maternity nurse. Fortunately Parental Choice did it all for us: they asked sensible questions about what we were looking for, dealt with the agencies for us, provided a short list of candidates and checked references, all very quickly indeed. They even reviewed the contract for us once we had chosen a maternity nurse. We now have a great maternity nurse and would not have been in this position without Parental Choice.” Amanda
