There are two different type of Parental Leave that parents need to be aware of:
- Shared Parental Leave
- Ordinary Parental Leave (which used to be called Parental Leave)
Shared Parental Leave is entirely separate from the statutory right to Ordinary Parental Leave. From 5th April 2015, Ordinary Parental Leave will be available up to a child’s 18th birthday (currently there is a 5 year age limit).
Paternity Leave of two weeks will continue to be available to fathers and a mother’s or adopter’s partner, however Additional Paternity Leave will be removed (Shared Parental Leave will replace it).
